Terms to Know

Bronze Age, First:  The last age of Firstworld.  Known as the "Late Bronze Age" in Middleworld.

Bronze Age, Second:  The current age, which began during the Renaissance.

Changeling:  An elf raised in Middleworld or a human raised in Otherworld.

Cold Iron:  A type of iron particularly detrimental to magical beings.  Believed, by some, to be a variety of steel.

Cold Iron Age:  The coming age that will mark the beginning of the end for Otherworld.  Also known as the Second Iron Age.

Drogeo:  The Otherworldy kingdom roughly synonymous with the island of Newfoundland.

Elf:  The dominant native race of Otherworld, having a homonormative society.

Estotiland:  The Otherworldly Kingdom roughly  synonymous with Labrador and northern Quebec.

Firstworld:  The world of the First Golden, Silver and Bronze ages, when there was no distinction between Otherworld and Middleworld.  The world before science and history.

Goblin:  A Liminal race that has been sunjugated in Otherworld and is reviled in Middleworld (to a point of near extinction).  Goblins are typically responsible for swapping human and elf children to create Changelings.

Golden Age, First:  Known as the "Early Bronze Age" in Middleworld.

Golden Age, Second:  An age of prosperity and conquest.  In Middleworld, spanning the Roman Republic and the following Empire until the fall of the Western Roman Empire.

Human:  The dominant native race of Middleworld, having a heteronormative society.

Innocent:  A human or elf child before the onset of puberty.  Capable of crossing the Threshold.

Iron Age, First:  The first age of both Otherworld and Middleworld.  Marked by the emergence of Cold Iron.  Lasted, in Middleworld, until the rise of the Roman Republic.

Jogah League:  An Otherworldly nation roughly synonymous with Upstate New York and southern Ontario.

Lastworld:  The world that Middleworld will become during the Cold Iron Age when the Sundering finally destroys Otherworld.

Liminal:  "Living on the edgle."  A liminal thing is capable of operating in two-different states.  The Treshold is liminal, as are Changelings, Goblins and Innocents.

Middleworld:  The modern world in which we live.  A world of science.

Norumbega:  The Otherworldly kingdom roughly synonymous with New England and the Canadian Maritimes.  Ruled by the Court of Pines.  Currently at war with Saguenay.

Otherworld:  The world of magic, which still exists parallel to Middleworld.  The Sundering is slowly separating it from Middleworld, and will eventually destroy it.

Otherworlder:  A native of Otherworld, including Changelings and Goblins (even though goblins are native to both worlds).

Saguenay:  The Otherworldly kingdom roughly synonymous with southern Quebec.  Ruled by the Court of Lilies.  Currently at war with Norumbega.

Silver Age, First:  Known as the "Middle Bronze Age" in Middleworld.

Silver Age, Second:  Sometimes called the "Dark Ages" in Middleworld, spanning from the fall of the Western Roman Empire to the Renaissance.

Sundering:  The division of Firstworld into Otherworld and Middleworld, that started during the First Bronze Age and has been predicted to end during the Cold Iron Age--completely destroying Otherworld.

Therian:  A human, elf, or goblin with an animal soul.  "Liminal" in that they are native to both worlds, but not necessarily capable of crossing the Threshold.

Threshold:  The "barrier" between Otherworld and Middleworld.  Only Changelings, Goblins and Innocents can cross the Threshold, moving from one world to the other.
